RBRC reports 30% increase in collections

Advanced Battery Technology, Aug 2003

The Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corp. of Atlanta, Georgia, has announced its collection data for the first six months of 2003, reporting that it collected two million pounds of rechargeable batteries - a 30% increase for the same time period for 2002.

The non-profit RBRC also reported a 30% increase in program participation, adding 880 new collection sites. This brings the total number of businesses, communities and public agencies who take part in the program to more than 3,700 and the number of collection sites to more than 30,000 in the U.S. and Canada.

Earlier this year RBRC added 1,100 Staples office supply stores to its program and announced a no-cost program for municipal, state or local governmental agencies, as well as public hospitals, police and fire departments, and military institutions that want to recycle rechargeable batteries. They can do so for free. Since RBRC removed its program fees, nearly 500 public agencies have signed on an increase of 97%.
