Battery Testing Software

Advanced Battery Technology, Nov 2003

Valere Power has new battery testing software for its AC/DC telecom power distribution systems. The software runs a series of tests and can be configured to automatically generate alarms if a battery string fails the test, indicating that the string needs to be replaced. Key voltage, current, and battery amperage hours are also tracked during the tests to help carriers better manage these systems. The software runs Valere's compact DC power system and integrated power system.

The system works with valve-regulated lead acid batteries and newer battery technology. It can be integrated with VaIere's Energy Trak or wide-area networks. Local testing may be performed using the multi-character display. Test data are maintained from the previous five tests for comparison purposes. One key feature is the ability to force a battery into a discharge mode, allowing the software to monitor voltage, current, and temperature changes to determine how many hours of backup power is available in remote equipment centers.
