EaglePicher Wins Quality Center Award

Advanced Battery Technology, Nov 2003

The Power Division of EaglePicher Technologies, LLC, along with other team members on Boeing's Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) program, received the prestigious Quality Center Award for 2003. The award, sponsored by Aviation Week magazine, recognizes outstanding manufacturers, service organizations, government agencies, regions of manufacturing excellence and military units in North America, Europe and Asia.

EaglePicher's Power Division in Joplin, Missouri, provides the batteries for the JDAM program, which produces a low-cost guidance kit that converts conventional free-fall bombs into "smart bombs." Other members of the JDAM team that shared the award are HR Textron, The Boeing Company, Honeywell International and Rockwell Collins.

Louis "Lou" Lupo, vice president and general manager of the Power Division, accepted the award on behalf of the EaglePicher JDAM team at a dinner awards ceremony on October 28 in Arlington, Texas.

"EaglePicher's company-wide 'Six Sigma' quality improvement program has helped the Joplin Technologies JDAM team maintain a focus on continual improvement and customer satisfaction as they advance in all areas of quality," said Lupo.

This is the sixth year for the Quality Center Award, which was started to encourage companies and organizations to achieve world-class service and products by promoting continuous improvement. Past winners include the U.S. Air Force Materiel Command, the Airbus team, the Naval Air Systems Command, and the F/A-18 Super Hornet military/civil team.
