Advanced Battery Technology, Jul 2004
Biophan Technologies Inc. of Rochester, New York, has acquired a majority interest in TE-Bio LLC, a company developing a nanotech battery that supplies longer life to implanted medical devices.
The technology, based on a patented innovation in the use of thermoelectric materials, uses nanoscale-based, thin-film materials to convert thermal energy produced naturally by the human body into electrical energy. The resulting power can be used to "trickle charge" batteries for medium-power devices. The battery has the potential to provide as much as a 30-year life, or five times the service life of existing technology.
