Ford Sets Mileage Record, Expands HEV Lineup

Advanced Battery Technology, Jul 2004

The 2005 Ford Escape hybrid set a record by traveling 576 miles on a single tank of gas while being driven non-stop for 37 hours as part of an extreme driving test throughout Manhattan, including the morning and evening rush hours. It averaged more than 38 miles per gallon.

In 2007, the company is adding a hybrid vehicle, the Mercury Mariner Hybrid SUV. It is the world's first no-compromise SUV, combining fuel economy and emissions benefits of a "full" hybrid along with all the cargo capacity and on- and off-road capability of the Ford Escape.
