A New Approach to Battery Servicing

Advanced Battery Technology,  Feb 2005

Battery Service Hub, a new national franchise operation launched by battery specialist Keith Joughin, promises to transform the way industry looks after its traction batteries.

"We are adopting a completely different approach," says Joughin, who founded and for 20 years ran Industrial Battery Systems in Wellingborough, U.K. before selling to Fiamm in the late 1990s.

Battery servicing is currently carried out by manufacturers or regional independents who all sell batteries as part of their business. In contrast, BSH is an independent national operation solely concerned with service and not involved in selling batteries or promoting brands.

From any part of the country, customers requesting service or technical advice call a single free-phone number which connects them to the BSH national call center. Service coordinators route the request to the appropriate engineer and continuously monitor the progress of each service visit until it is completed.

Service center staff are in constant communication with engineers, monitoring their location and availability so that work schedules are managed efficiently.

BSH has also established a dedicated training division to ensure that all engineers can handle not only batteries but chargers and ancillary equipment. All engineers undergo initial training and then receive regular updates as new products are introduced.

As franchise holders they will be able to seek new business within their territory as well as benefitting from contracts secured by the central marketing team.
