Advanced Battery Technology, Feb 2005
Sytem Technology ByuckHae, a battery chipset venture startup in South Korea, developed the world's first cellular phone-use portable smart battery pack that extends talktime, or battery life, of mobile handsets by 800%.
The Mobile Saver MPB 4000, about the size of a mobile handset, is a large capacity portable rechargeable battery. The lithium-ion cell pack has power capacity of 4,60OmAh, about fourfold the 1,000-1,30OmAh capacity of regular rechargeable battery of cell phones. The greater the capacity, the longer the battery life.
Customers can charge their cellular phones while on the move, regardless of where they are, with the pack.
Mobile Saver is a smart battery that displays how much power remains in the battery pack by the light-emitting diode (LED) battery power gauge.
Equipped with an in-house developed integrated circuitmicrochip, MPB 4000 identifies its chemistry and tells the charger which charge algorithm to apply while protecting the battery from overcharging, under-discharging and short-circuiting.
With an estimated lifecycle of 5 years, will sell at $60.
STB also plans to market the battery pack in Korea next year through three mobile carriers. It plans to sell the battery pack at a lower price in Korea.
