30 Second Battery Charger

Advanced Battery Technology, Feb 2005

A battery that can be recharged in 30 seconds has been developed by NEC in Japan. Normally, batteries found in cell phones and laptops take at least an hour to charge.

NEC says its "organic-radical" battereis will provide the same performance as a conventional cell, providing enough power to operate an MP3 player for 80 hours. They expect the first commercial application to be as an emergency power source for laptops. The battery should be on sale in two to three years.
