Swimming World and Junior Swimmer, Apr 1998

MISSOURI

Blue Springs South captured the top spot in the Big Eight High School Meet with 352 points; Oak Park was second with 254 and Park Hill was third with 189. Blue Springs was led by event winners Matt Culpepper (100 yard free, 49.22) and Jeremy Arens (100 breast, 1:04.30), with Blue Springs' 200 and 400 free relays winning in 1:32.11 and 3:27.74, respectively. Brian Rauscher of Lee's Summit won the 200 free (1:47.84), and teammate Eric Bentner was tops in the 500 free (4:56.84). Oak Park swimmers took home the 200 medley relay title (1:44.85), and Kit Johnson won the 100 back (56.57). Brian Owen of Truman took first in the 200 IM (2:06.20), and Johnathan Waldon of Park Hill won the 1-meter diving event (420.90). NEVADA

RJ.P. Morgan, who swims for the Boulder City-Henderson Swim Team in Boulder City, has times from last year's Lost Dutchman meet which were faster than those recorded for him in the short course National Age Group rankings which appeared in the February issue of Swimming World. At the meet, he swam times of 26.15 in the 50 yard free and 1:05.86 in the 100 yard fly. His 50 free time would have ranked second; the 100 fly time moves him up to 12th on the list.

The seventh annual Fran Schnarr Pentathlon was held at the Flushing YMCA Jan. 24-25. The top finishers in each age group were: 9-10 girls-Jennifer Illescas, Flushing Y, 3:21.31 (new meet record); 910 boys-Norman Scott, Badger, 3:25.04; 11-12 girls-Ashlie Kyles, Riverbank, 3:11.57; 11-12 boys-Matthew Kenny, Middletown Rec, 3:11.75; 13-14 girlsMaria delMundo, Flushing Y, 3:03.10; 13-14 boys-Matthew Castillo, Flushing Y, 2:43.53; open girls-Kerri Lowery, Flushing Y, 3:06.07; open boys-Gladstone Edwards, Flushing Y, 2:46.26.

TENNESSEE

The McCallie School in Chattanooga hosted the 5th Annual McCallie Invitational last Dec. 5-6. Teams from Kentucky, North Carolina, Georgia and Tennesse attended.

The top three girls teams were Girls Prep, Tenn. (386), Westminster School, Ga. (277) and Harpeth Hall, Tenn. (258). On the boys side, McCallie came in first (505.5), followed by Harrison High, Ga. (248) and Westminster School, Ga. (215).

McCallie sophomore Erik Moe, swimmer of the meet, set pool and meet records in the 100-200 yard free (48.17-1:43.72). He also swam on McCallie's winning 200400 free relays. Both 100 fly meet records were broken by Westminster's Jeff Dash (boys, 51.82) and Pope's K. Newkirk (girls, 59.44). EXAS

Blue Tide Aquatics of northern Houston recently won runner-up honors at the 1998 Aggieland Open.

High-point awards were won by Blue Tide swimmers Alicia Stevens (8-andunder girls), Madeleine Stanton (10-andunder girls) and Brittany Lentz (ll-12 girls). Eric Mai won six events and broke the 10-and-under boys Gulf association record in the 100 yard back (1:06.53).
