Swimming World and Junior Swimmer, Jan 2002

The 2001-2002 high school season promises to be a sizzler. She also swam the 100 in 49.39, just missing her prep standard of 49.33.

Kara Joyce of Pioneer H.S. in Michigan, set a national public school record in the same event. Joyce sped through the two-lapper in 22.73, lowering Kelly Bennett's 1999 mark by 2-- hundredths. Joyce also won the 100 (49.53p).

Rosary (Ill.) High's Mary Descenza shaved 2-hundredths off her own national independent school standard in the 100 fly, touching in 53.11. She set a second state mark in winning the 200 free (1:48.44, just ahead of New Trier's Jackie Goldman, 1:48.57).
