Parting shot

Swimming World and Junior Swimmer, Aug 2003

Here's something that'll whet your appetite. Want to raise some money for your swim club? Instead of dangling that ol' carrot in front of your swimmers for motivation, how about dangling a delicious chocolate cream pie?

That's what Circle C Swimming of Austin, Texas did recently. For every $100 a swimmer raised from a number of fund-raising opportunities, the swimmer was able to throw a pie at the coach of his or her choice.

The team made about $13,000 from the various fund-raisers, and Coach Randy Reese (above) was the "recipient" of quite a few pies.

Not to be outdone: if there was a cherry in the pie, the coaches got to throw a pie at the swimmer in return!
