Vermont Part-Time Student Grant
Eligibility: Vermont residents enrolled as parttime undergraduate students earning fewer than 12 credits per semester at approved institutions. Grants are need-based and portable throughout the United States. Award amount: $250 to $6,830 annually. Application: Contact VSAC.
Vermont Non-Degree Grant
Eligibility: Vermont residents enrolled in a nondegree course to improve employability or encourage further study. Grants are need-based and portable throughout the United States. Award amount: up to $715 per term, up to two terms per year. Application: Contact VSAC.
Scholarship Programs
Vermont Student Assistance Corporation-Assisted Scholarships
Eligibility: Vermont residents who meet individual scholarship criteria. Award amount: $200 to $7,500, depending on scholarship. Application: Contact VSAC for Unified Scholarship Application and booklet describing scholarships.
Federal Family Education Loan Programs
Subsidized and Unsubsidized Stafford Loans
Eligibility: Vermont residents attending participating institutions in any state and non-residents attending participating Vermont institutions. Students must be enrolled at least half-time and demonstrate financial need for subsidized loan. Loan amounts: for first-year undergraduate, $2,625; second-year, $3,500; remaining years, $5,500; for graduate/professional students, $8,500. Additional unsubsidized loan for independent students: first-year and second-year undergraduate students, $4,000; remaining years, $5,000; for graduate/professional students, $10,000. Plus Loan
Eligibility: Parents or legal guardians of dependent students attending participating institutions. Loan amount: up to cost of attendance less estimated financial aid. Application: Contact VSAC.
Vermont Value
Stafford, and Plus loans qualify for interest-free periods and annual rebate. Consolidation loans qualify for up-front rebate. Discount available for electronic payment. Contact VSAC.
Vermont Student Assistance Corporation Extra Law and Extra Medical Loans
Eligibility: Independent students, students of Vermont Law School or other VSAC-approved law school, students of the University of Vermont College of Medicine or other VSAC-approved medical school. Loan amount: Up to cost of education minus financial aid. ElectPay interest rate discount available. Application: Contact VSAC.
Vermont Student Assistance Corporation Advantage Loan
Eligibility: Vermont residents attending participating institutions in any state and non-residents attending participating Vermont institutions. Students must be enrolled at least half-time in a graduate or undergraduate program and have borrowed the maximum Stafford Loan. Students must be credit approved or apply with a creditapproved cosigner. Loan amount: Up to cost of attendance minus estimated financial aid.
