T-28 "Trojan" training school

Flight Journal, Oct 1998

Former Apollo 8 astronaut Bill Anders has graduated from Darton Aviation's most recent T-28 Trojan Training Ground School (spring, 1998). Bill recently purchased a T-28B and sought out "the best transition training available" for the T-28. He selected the Darton Ground and Flight Program because of its "high quality" and Darton's reputation for professional results.

Darton Aviation pioneered the unique, five-day school for civilian pilots who are making the transition to owning and operating the former military fighter-bombers known as T-28 Trojans. The school's programs are enlightening and entertaining and include a combination of classroom and procedural training in the aircraft.

Darton has announced that the next T-28 Trojan Training Ground School will be conducted at the Carlsbad Inn and Cinema Air let Center from October 10 to 14, 1998. Attendees from all over the world are expected to participate in this class. More than 200 students have graduated the Darton course.

The FAA requires that civilian T-28 pilots qualify for and receive a letter of authorization (LOA-a type rating for high-horsepower, propeller-driven, ex-military aircraft. The Darton school is FAA approved and complies with curriculum requirements for LOA training. Class size is limited to 15 students, and flight training is available separately at an additional cost.
