Niagara Nugget

Flight Journal, Dec 1999

The famous Falls aren't the only attraction in Niagara Falls, New York. A recently opened Niagara Aerospace Museum now entices aviation and space fans.

In a 40,000 square-foot-area in the Summit Park Mall, this museum contains a collection of local aviation and space memorabilia. Among these are the GE-I16A-America's first jet engine, a 1929 Curtiss Robin, 1929 Pietenpol AirCamper, 1947 Bell Model 47B-3 helicopter and 1955 Lockheed F-94A Starfire.

The museum's western New York location was once a center of aviation research and manufacturing in the United States. Among the manufacturers present were Curtiss, Curtiss-Wright, Consolidated Aircraft Corp. and Bell Aircraft Corp.

For information on the museum, contact Jack Heine (716) 297-4148; www.geocities.com/~ niagaramuseum/ or niagaeromus@juno.com.
