Wick Wright: 1922-1999

Flight Journal,  Apr 2000  by Kaplan, Ron,  Patterson, Dan

On December 9, 1999, Wilkinson "Wick" Wright, grandnephew of Orville and Wilbur Wright, died at his home near Dayton, Ohio, after a battle with cancer.

Wick was the spokesman for aviation's most famous family and was an active proponent of numerous efforts to commemorate the Wright brothers' notable achievements. He was well respected for his quiet and thoroughly commonsense approach, a gracious air of diplomacy and a wry sense of humor. Considered a "walking encyclopedia" of the Wright heritage, he was a popular speaker with groups of all ages, and he was able to interpret and translate the many technical aspects of the brothers' historic achievements into understandable language. His unique perspective on aviation and its beginnings will be missed.
