Disover the Discovery Channel
Flight Journal, Aug 2001
This summer, Discovery Digital Networks will provide comprehensive, original programming dedicated to the 2001 airshow season and focusing on the World Air Games and EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2001:
-World Air Games 2001 (Spain, June 23 through July 1). During and after the week of the airshow, Discovery Wings Channel will provide original, ongoing coverage of this event. It will produce a series of short programs that will bring viewers breathtaking footage of the aerobatics, hang-gliding, speed-gliding and sky-diving events.
In addition, Discovery Wings will showcase a slate of specials throughout the week of the airshow. Aviation fans will be able to tune in all week for a special line-up that includes "Aerobatics World Championship 2000," "Aviatrix: Aerial Circus," "Free Fall," "Speed Gliding World Championship 2000," "Extreme Machines: Ultimate Balloons," "Cheating Gravity" and more.
-EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2001 (Oshkosh, Wisconsin, July 24 through 30). Discovery Digital Networks will offer comprehensive, multi-perspective coverage of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh-the world's largest annual aviation event. Discovery Wings, Discovery Science, Discovery Civilization and Discovery Home & Leisure (H&L) channels will each air distinct, complementary original coverage of the event. (The Science, Civilization and H&L programs are still pending as we go to press.)
-Discovery Wings Channel. During and after the week of the airshow, Discovery Wings will bring viewers a series of original, short programs covering Oshkosh 2001; this event annually attracts more than 750,000 attendees and 10,500 aircraft. Viewers will be treated to an up-close and personal look at the planes and pilots.
-Wrap program (title pending). This original, one-hour program highlighting the best of Oshkosh 2001 will premiere on Discovery Wings Channel (dates to be determined) and will be hosted by Mark Annick, the co-host of Discovery Wings' original series, "From the Ground Up."
-Airshow season preview (title pending). This one-hour, behind-the-scenes look at the preparations for EAA AirVenture Oshkosh will air in Spring 2002 to give aviation fans a chance to start gearing up for the airshow season.
-Complementary "specials." In addition to its original Oshkosh coverage, Discovery Wings will showcase a slate of "library specials" during "Oshkosh week."
-Discovery Science Channel. Sometime in late July, a special edition of "Science Daily Weekend" will highlight the latest science and technology behind the aircraft at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh (confirmation pending as we go to press).
-Discovery Civilization Channel. An original series of short programs will explore the stories of the friends and families who travel to Oshkosh every year from around the globe to attend this premier event (confirmation pending as we go to press).
-Discovery Home & Leisure. Aviation buffs have to eat, too! H&L takes its "Cook It" series to Oshkosh to demonstrate everything from transporting food in the air to preparing gourmet meals on the wingside Hibachi (confirmation pending as we go to press).
