Australian War Memorial acquires Hudson

Flight Journal, Oct 2001 by Hastings, Paul

In a major coup, the AWM has acquired one of the aircraft it most wanted: a Lockheed Hudson bomber.

Acquired from warbird personality Malcolm Long, the Hudson Mk IV A16-105 (41-23175) bomber is a veteran of the Pacific War; it also saw action as a trainer and as a troop and cargo transport. In September 1947, the aircraft was sold by the Commonwealth Disposals Commission and began an active postwar life with East-West Airlines, John Fairfax and Sons and Ad Astra Aerial Surveys. In the late '80s, it was extensively restored to airworthy standard.

The bomber will be displayed in the new Anzac Hall. -Paul Hastings
