Rafwaffe, The

Flight Journal, Feb 2003 by Gosling, Peter

In the summer of 1945, a friend and I cycled out to Collyweston and discovered that the airfield had become a large dump of wrecked Luftwaffe aircraft. This was a schoolboy's dream, and we spent a happy afternoon scrambling over the wrecks. My trophy was the control column from a 109. 1 kept this proud possession in my room for a number of years until my overzealous mother decided that it was junk and disposed of it! There are times when I wish I could turn back the clock.
