SWISS MIRAGES RETIRE

Flight Journal, Jun 2004 by Tolvanen, Lassi

ON DECEMBER 17, 2003, the Swiss Air Force retired its Mirage IIIRS recce-planes after 38 years of service. With Maj. Markus Zurcher at the controls, the last Mirage took off from the Dubendorf AB near Zurich. The Swiss Air Force commemorated its last flights by painting two Mirages in special colors that were based on the black and white film used by recce cameras. The fighter version had been retired in 1999, so only the recce version remained.

Thousands of Mirage fans gathered at the Dubendorf AB to see the delta-shape fighter make its last appearance as it flew in formation with three Swiss Air Force Patrouille Suisse F-5s.
