Diecast Direct presents the Tuskegee Airmen P-51D Mustang

Flight Journal, Jun 2005

Lt. Charles White was one of the first 332nd Fighter Group pilots to fly a P-51D. After he joined the group as a replacement pilot, he was given a war-weary P-51C. White's complaints about its unreliability led his commanding officer to allocate this early P-51D directly to Lt. White. Happy about the allocation, White was inspired and painted a nude on each side of the new fighter's fuselage.

This P-51D is 1:72 scale, has a 6.75-inch wingspan and costs $24.95 plus $5.95 (S&H). Made by Corgi, it is available via Diecast Direct, Dept. FJ0506, 3005 Old Lawrenceburg Rd., Frankfort, KY 40601; Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST; (800) 718-1866. It makes a great Father's Day gift.
