City bus hits pedestrian: Improper right turn: Toe amputation: Verdict.

Gaffron v. Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Auth., Ga., Fulton County Super. Ct., No. E-32365, Mar. 19, 1999.

Gaffron, 21, was crossing the street when a Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) bus made a right turn from the left lane, striking her. She required amputation of her left big toe. Her medical expenses totaled about $15,100. She was a student at the time of the collision with the bus.

She sued MARTA, alleging agency liability for the driver's improper right turn.

The jury awarded $575,000.
