Doe v. Roe, Cal., settled before filing, Apr. 8, 2002.

Doe, 17, was a passenger in a vehicle traveling on a highway. The driver, Roe, lost control of the car, causing it to run off the roadway and roll down an embankment. Doe suffered fatal injuries. He is survived by his parents.

Doe's parents claimed Roe was driving at an excessive speed.

Before suit was filed, the case settled for $1.95 million, paid by the insurers of Roe's parents.
