Law Reporter, Mar 2003

Olson v. Federal Express Corp., Ill., Cook County Cir. Ct., No. 99 L 13892, Oct. 30,2002.

Harrer, 53, was crossing a parking lot entrance in front of a truck that was waiting to turn. The truck pulled forward, striking Harrer and running over her. She suffered fatal injuries. Harrer had been a financial analyst trainee, in which position she was earning approximately $20,000 annually. She is survived by three adult children.

Harrer's son, on behalf of her estate, sued the driver of the truck, alleging negligence, and the driver's employer, alleging vicarious liability.

The parties settled the case prior to trial for $2 million for the loss of consortium suffered by Harrer's children. The entire settlement amount was paid by the driver's employer.
