The night landing operations were conducted at the auxiliary field, using special flare pots, which you couldn't see until you got down to a low altitude. Then they popped into sight and outlined the runway area. You had a flashlight, your maps, and some snacks, and you were on your own during those lonely night crosscountry missions. AC
