Rolls-Royce heritage trophy

Air Classics, Jun 2000

General Jack Dailey, the recently appointed director of the National Air and Space Museum, and Brigadier General Paul Tibbets will join RollsRoyce North American Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer James Guyette to present the Rolls-Royce Aviation Heritage Trophy at Reno 2000.

"Preserving aviation`s rich history becomes increasingly important as we approach the 100th anniversary of flight in 2003 and, at RollsRoyce, we approach our own centennial in 2006," said Guyette. "Sponsorship of the National Aviation Heritage Invitational encourages the preservation of aviation history through the restoration of vintage aircraft to airworthy condition."

The event was established last year and coincides with the National Championship Air Races, 13-17 September, and is co-sponsored by Rolls-Royce, NASM, National Aviation Hail of Fame, and Reno Air Racing Association. Participating aircraft are judged on technical merit

criteria developed by NASM and by popular vote. Judging criteria includes authenticity, quality of workmanship, attention to detail, and technical merit.

As Air Classics readers well know, the first winner was Robert Odegaard with this Goodyear F2G-1 D Super Corsair. Applications for entry must be submitted to the Reno Air Racing Association no later than 4 August 2000. No more than 50 aircraft will be selected. To be considered, aircraft must be of a type flying at least 45 years prior to the year of entry and may not be a participant in the air races.
