Dutch skymaster for sale

Air Classics, Nov 2000

New Dutch laws restricting the operation of vintage and veteran aircraft has forced the Dutch Dakota Association to put its magnificent Douglas DC-4 PH-DDS up for sale. The aircraft has a full air transport certificate of airworthiness but the Dutch Civil Airworthiness Authority does not want the aircraft to fly and carry passengers.

If the plane can not carry passengers, then it can not support itself. The DC-4 will operate to the end of the 2000 season. The DC-4 was purchased in South Africa and flown to Holland's Schiphol Airport in May 1996. The group also purchased South African DC-4 ZS-IPR to use as a source of parts. This ruling may be the harbinger of even more strict flying rules for all of Europe.
