Saving a DC-7B
Air Classics, Jul 2001
William Hirsch is attempting to save a Douglas DC-7B that once flew with Eastern Air Lines. Several former EAL employees have banded together and opened negotiations with the owner whose wife is a former EAL employee. The owner is willing to sell the craft to the group at well below its asking price. Located at St. Paul, Minnesota, the plane is intact and has its full original EAL interior but has not flown in years.
The aircraft is N836D c/n 45345 and was delivered to EAL on 23 January 1958. If acquired the airliner would be donated to the Mid Atlantic Air Museum and take its rightful place next to the EAL Martin 4-0-4. Upon being restored, the aircraft would join the 4-0-4 and the EAL DC-3 in flying the airshow circuit. Mr. Hirsch is asking for former EAL employees and for aviation enthusiasts to help preserve this now rare transport. He can be reached at 1709 Sycamore Avenue, North Merrick, New York 11566.
