Me 262 project update

WARBIRD REPORT KEEP EM FLYING
Activities continue at the Me 262 Project, reports Jim Larsen. Since the landing accident experienced by White 1 (see Air Classics April) on 17 January 2003, the aircraft has been undergoing repairs. The wing has been detached from the fuselage to facilitate repairs to portions of the wing skin. A few wing ribs are being replaced along with new wing skins but the overall damage is not severe. The wing spar was not damaged. Components of the landing gear actuators are being redesigned and built to avoid inadvertent unlocking of the landing gear when extended (something that occurred during the 17 January landing).
The single-seat Me 262 slated for delivery to the Messerschmitt Foundation in Germany is progressing nicely. The fuselage has been removed from the assembly jig and mated to the wing. The aircraft is now on its landing gear as completion detailing continues.
