Lightning at Chino

TFC P-38 arrives at Fighter Rebuilders

As we reported in last month's issue, Lockheed P-38L Lightning USAAF s/n 44-27231/N79123 that had been purchased from a Seattle collector by The Fighter Collection has arrived at Chino Airport. The rare twin-engine fighter was flown into Chino by Steve Hinton shortly before the start of The Air Museum's annual airshow and was placed on display in the static area. After the show, the aircraft was transferred to Fighter Rebuilders for maintenance before it goes to Britain.

As can be seen, the old paint and markings of Major Dick Bong have been stripped and the plane has been given temporary markings of just national insignias and red spinners. We will be reporting on the aircraft's progress at Fighter Rebuilders.
