How the Luftwaffe built its bomber force
Kampfflieger, Bombers of the Luftwaffe 1933-1940 by J. Richard Smith and Eddie J. Creek (Specialty Press, $24.95 800-895-4585) is a concise and good look at how the Germans built up a bombing force - initially in secrecy and then flaunting its power to a terrified Europe. However, it was also a force with flaws.
Using excellent photographs, colorful profiles, and interviews with crewmen, the author shows the rapid growth of the Luftwaffe bombers from the 1930s up into 1940 when the world stood on the brink of total war.
