5 GRAND

Since I was a crew member on 5 Grand, your article about "our airplane" in the July issue made very interesting reading. In relation to your article, I am enclosing an article from the Boeing News of October 1944 regarding the plane and our crew. I have also enclosed a list of missions flown by our crew.

If have readers have information regarding 5 Grand or former crew member, I would certainly appreciate from them.

ALUMINUM OVERCAST

I read about the mishap to the EAA's B-17G Aluminum Overcast N5017N at Van Nuys in the August issue. I noticed the mention about the bomber's service with Dothan Aviation in Alabama as a fire ant sprayer. I went through my files and found photographs of the two Flying Fortresses which were operated by Dothan. They were taken at Cochran Field (now Middle Georgia Regional Airport) in Macon, Georgia, during 1973-1975. The bombers flew spraying missions out of Macon for several years. The photos illustrate N5017N and N3701G s/n 44-8543 which is now known as Chuckie and based in Ft. Worth, Texas. Since photos of the Dothan Forts seem to be a bit rare, I thought readers would enjoy them.
