VINTAGE HANGAR BURNS

LSFM escapes any damage

Just to the east of the Lone Star Flight Museum, Galveston, Texas, was a large World War Two hangar left over from the field's military days. A classic example of a WWII wooden structure, the vintage building was completely consumed in a huge, very hot fire during September according to LSFM President Ralph Royce. The hangar was to be the first phase of the new Schlitterbahn Waterpark facility and workers were renovating the interior for use as an all-weather facility. Fortunately, the LSFM facilities escaped damage but this once again illustrates just how quickly these "temporary" wooden WWII facilities can succumb to fire.
