CORSAIR FLIES

Air Classics, Jan 2005 by O'Leary, Michael

Magnificent bent-wing bird takes to the air

On 8 October, Brad Hood took Goodyear FG-ID Corsair BuNo 67070/N29VF into the air at Sellersburg, Indiana, following a multi-year restoration by Vintage Fighters. Finished in overall white primer, Brad circled the field while owner Charles Osborn and family looked on. Retracting the gear, Brad carried out basic system and control checks before landing back at the field. Pronouncing the flight a success with no problems, several more flights will be undertaken before the Corsair heads to Sky Harbour Refinishers in Canada to receive its tri-color US Navy camouflage scheme.

Recovered as a hulk from the Salvadorian Air Force, the aircraft was purchased from John Roxbury in Minnesota and transported to Indiana for the long ground-up restoration which resulted in a virtually new Corsair, "We look forward to taking the FG-ID to Oshkosh 2005," stated Brad.
