WRIGHT FLYER FOR SEATTLE

Air Classics,  Jun 2005

The Museum of Flight at Boeing Field has purchased the exact replica Wright Flyer from the Wright Experience of Warrenton, Virginia. The Flyer acquired by MOF is one of three authentic reproductions built by the Wright Experience in commemoration of the centennial of the Wright brothers' first powered flight in 1903.

One of these Flyers was flown in 2003 in connection with the Centennial of Flight celebration in North Carolina. The Flyer reproductions were built using turn-of-the-century materials and techniques, and are identical in every respect to the original Flyer as it was configured for its first flight on 17 December 1903. The Flyer joins an extensive Wright collection that includes the Wright Co. Papers, collection of rare 1908 glass negatives of Wilbur Wright's 1908 flights at Le Mans, France, and an authentic reproduction of the 1902 Wright Glider.
