A rare variant is back in the air

"Down on the deck, it's 20-tnph faster than a D model!" enthused John Hinton. The aircraft to which he was referring was the North American Aviation P-51A Mustang helonginK to The Air Museum Planes ot Fame. Over a numher ot months, the P-51A had been receiving a great deal of work to return the exceptionally rare aircraft to the air for the museum's annual airshow. John and other museum members had completely gone through the plane and engine and topped it all off By painting the craft in an Air Commandos scheme. Making its first post-maintenance flight a few days before the show, John took some time from his busy schedule to pose the P51A above nearby Lake Matthews. Watch for an upcoming feature on this aircraft.
