June 1998

Susan M. Felberg MacDonald, a Clinical Nurse III in the OR at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital, was awarded the Connecticut Nurses Association's Staff Nurse of the Month Award for June. Her nominators said she "exemplifies the definition of patient advocate." She has provided staff leadership on many projects, most recently in "developing, updating and revising latex allergy policies and procedures." Susan is further described as an "excellent clinician resource person and preceptor." "Our patient screening process for latex allergy is state of the art.' The most telling phrase was "I would be at peace with my fate if I had to have surgery and Susan MacDonald were my nurse."

We thank you Susan for the quality and dedication you give to your patients and colleagues. Congratulations on receiving the Staff Nurse of the Month Award for June.

July 1998

Linda Sniadack, RN Staff Nurse in the Emergency Department at New Britain General Hospital is the recipient of the July Staff Nurse of the Month Award. She is described as an energetic and enthusiastic practitioner who always puts the needs of the patient first. She taught the nurse the protocols and procedures while helping the nurse to support the patient.

She is professionally active serving on New Britain General Hospital's Trauma Committee. In addition, she is ACLS and BLS certified and encourages other staff to remain current by teaching them and providing them with up-to-date information. Her nominator's state, "She exemplifies excellence in nursing."

We at CNA join your peers in congratulating you for receiving the Staff Nurse of the Month for July.

August 1998

Elka Labossiere, RN a Night Nurse on the Cardiac Telemetry Unit at Hartford Hospital, is CNA's Staff Nurse of the Month for August. One nominator said "her experience in cardiology has protected the patient from harm and avoided otherwise disastrous consequences. Often diagnosing a patient's problem before anyone else, a not uncommon saying on our unit is "Elka did it again." Another recommendation was "her smile and humor go far in alleviating stressful situations." She has a `bast store of knowledge that ensures that patient care and staffing issues are handled in a professional, well thought out manner." Elka provides excellent guidance for the night staff!

The Connecticut Nurses' Association joins Hartford Hospital's colleagues in congratulating Elka for her well deserved Award.
