2004 President's Award Honored at Awards Luncheon Elizabeth Beaudin, Jadwiga Goclowski and Maribeth Pennoni 2004 recipients

Connecticut Nursing News, Dec 2004-Feb 2005

The President's Award is presented to individuals whose contributions to nursing and nursing practice represented a concerted effort to move an issue forward in a year. Also, who have provided outstanding service to CNA and been particularly helpful in achieving the association's goals.

This year's recipients have contributed to nursing in Connecticut in a number of ways and provided opportunities for CNA.

Elizabeth Beaudin, RN, MS, CNAA

Elizabeth "Liz" Beaudin ably developed and provided the leadership for the Future of Nursing in Connecticut project. This has brought together nursing in Connecticut in a unique way. The project has already led to positive outcomes and to efforts that are being done collaboratively. Nurses who don't always have opportunities to work together have been provided with this. The future of our profession in Connecticut is brighter because of her efforts.

In her capacity at the Connecticut Hospital Association Liz has offered a bridge to better understanding of the two organizations. This has in turn offered opportunities for the organizations to work together more effectively. She has been a statewide presence for nursing (and allied health) and her knowledge and leadership related to workforce issues is i being and will be felt into the future.

Jadwiga Goclowski, RN, PhD and Maribeth Pennoni, RN, BSN, MPS

During our centennial year it was fitting to honor Jadwiga Goclowski and Maribeth Pennoni for their involvement 25 years ago in establishing the Diamond Jubilee Awards. They captured an important part of CNA's history and institutionalized it.

In 1979 they were instrumental in developing the Diamond Jubilee Awards as a way to mark CNA's 75th anniversary. The first awards were given in 1980 and were named for the original recipients. These awards helped to establish recognition for outstanding innovations and achievements in nursing practice, education, research, political action and distinguished service to the professional organization in Connecticut. In the 25 years that the awards have been presented there have been 99 recipients who have been honored for their outstanding contributions.

Goclowski and Pennoni were recognized for offering insight, vision, planning, persistence and guidance over the last quarter century. Their efforts have led to many Connecticut nursing leaders receiving this highly coveted award. They were also recognized for your many years of service on the Awards Committee and their history, time and assistance have contributed to CNA's ability to recognize individuals and groups who have received CNA's other awards.
