A Note from the Editor

Midcontinental Journal of Archaeology, Spring 2009 by Schurr, Mark R

I would like to thank N'orni Greber for playing the role of Guest Editor and for pulling this volume together. The articles combine different lines of evidence with close scrutiny of archaeological contexts to provide new insights into the functions of the mound-mantled structures at Seip Earthworks in southcentral Ohio. We are very happy to be able to present this comprehensive overview of the excavations, what they produced, and what it all might mean.

We are also presenting an innovation with this issue. One of the key problems for archaeologists is making our abundant and irreplaceable data available to others in an era when publications are expensive and page counts must be limited. Several of the authors have agreed to make available primary data tables via the Midwest Archaeological Center web page http:// www.nps.gov/history/mwac/mcjaseip.hun. As we all know, it takes an enormous amount of effort to organize and study archaeological collections. The products of all that effort will now be readily available to archaeologists from all parts of the world.
