Aboriginal Nurse, The, Dec 2003 by Dumont-Smith, Claudette
KWEY - HELLO - BONJOUR!
How time flies! It seems that just a few weeks ago I wrote a message to you in another newsletter - the summer edition copy - and already it's time for another... Many activities have taken place since my last message to you. In july, the A.N.A.C. Executive and Board as well as several other members-at-large attended a Think Tank' in Ottawa to determine the association's strategic direction for 2003 and 2004 - a report of this meeting is available for A.N.A.C. members upon request. As soon as this event occurred, planning for the annual conference that was held in September in Winnipeg began in earnest.
Since March, pursuant to an executive decision to 'reorganize' and 'streamline,' few staff members have manned the association. Other than myself (working two days per week) as the interim National Coordinator, since April the office has had only one full time staff person, Sue MacDonald, in the position of Executive Assistant. A summer student was hired during july and August and recently a part-time accountant has been hired to manage the financial affairs of the Association. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Sue for her hard work and diligence and excellent work ethics and organizational skills - she has been a great asset to me and to the organization in the short time that she has been with us!
Requests for A.N.A.C. participation and expertise continue to pour in from all over - from grassroots organizations up to the Ministerial level! It seems that everyone is in need of our A.N.A.C. members' advice and input in all aspects of health care which, in my opinion, is a 'good thing.'
As most of you know, a call for a much needed full-time Executive Director has recently been advertised and I would, therefore, like to take this opportunity to wish great success to the person who assumes this challenging and rewarding position. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank each of you - past and current board members - for your support over the past several months during my term as interim National Coordinator; and to say that it was indeed a great pleasure to be working with all of you once again! Finally, I would like to wish everyone who is reading this newsletter a very Merry Christmas and a Healthy, Happy and Prosperous New Year!
Migwech - Thank you - Merci!
