New Year's Message from the President

Aboriginal Nurse, The,  Jan 2008  by Kinoshameg, Rosella

On behalf of the Executive, Board of Directors, and staff of the Aboriginal Nurses Association of Canada I say "Gidinmikoon" Greetings to all! May you all have a happy New Year, one that will ig you peace, much happiness and keep you safe.

Winter has hit the country hard with many snow storms, covering Mother Earth with a heavy blanket of snow in many places. Please drive safely, and stay on the road!

I extend sympathies to our Executive Director, Brenda Thomas, whose brother returned to the spirit world recently. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Brenda and her family at this time.

Welcome to Candalee Beatty, the new communications officer. I am sure many of you have already heard from her. She is hard at work.

Good news! The membership in the association has increase by 40% to date. Thanks to your efforts of working hard at recruiting members. Please continue to find and encourage every Aboriginal nurse out there in this vast country to join. Membership fees of $50.00 will come due April 1st. We need strong Aboriginal nurse's voices.

Thanks to all the board members who participated in the board development exercise in November. Your attendance in Ottawa was greatly appreciated. Thanks for the high level of involvement you have demonstrated. Pictures from the November 11th Remembrance Ceremony will be included in this edition of the Aboriginal Nurse.

I also had a lovely visit to head office in December and treated the staff to a Christmas lunch.

Until next time, baamaapii minawaa, take care!

Rosella
