The A.N.A.C. mentorship program is meant to support Aboriginal candidates in nursing programs. The program is expected to go-live in early 2008 with 20 Aboriginal students and 10 established nurse mentors from across Canada. We have had many positive responses and are in the final stages of implementation. Please stay tuned into the website and look to the next newsletter for news from participants.

A.N.A.C. attends the National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation: Blueprint for the Future Youth Conference

On October 30 2007, Montreal hosted the Blueprint for the Future Youth Conference. The conference was aimed at developing and implementing activities to address the issue of recruitment and retention of Aboriginal students by encouraging the Aboriginal youth to pursue studies in health careers.

A.N.A.C. Executive Director Brenda Thomas and Louise Godbout, member from Quebec attended the event with the A.N.A.C. booth. The A.N.A.C. booth was visited by over 100 youth whom expressed interests in nursing. She was especially impressed by the young men who voiced interest in nursing careers in the normally "female-dominated" profession.

A.N.A.C. continues to build a stronger relationship with the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN). The A.N.A.C. booth was shared with C.A.S.N., attended by Coleen Ferris
