NAHO Announces New CEO

Aboriginal Nurse, The,  Jan 2008  

OTTAWA, ON - The National Aboriginal Health Organization (NAHO) announced today that Dr. Paulette Tremblay has been named its new Chief Executive Officer.

Tremblay will assume the position on January 7, 2008, taking over from acting Chief Executive Officer Carole Lafontaine, who will remain with the organization as Senior Executive Assistant.

A Mohawk from Six Nations of the Grand River Territory in Southern Ontario, Tremblay recently served as Director of Education at the National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation. Prior to that, she held the position of Senior Executive Officer with the Six Nations Council, heading up an administration of approximately 700.

A veteran who served in the American Navy during the Vietnam War, Tremblay has had a diverse and accomplished career. She served for five years as the Director of Education for the Assembly of First Nations and represented the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations as the National Liaison for the Chiefs of Saskatchewan in Ottawa.

Tremblay has a solid background in research, having worked as a researcher for the University of Ottawa; an evaluation, quality control and training consultant for the private sector; an instructor, trainer, consultant and policy analyst for the federal government; and a high school teacher and counsellor in the Yukon.

Tremblay holds Doctor of Philosophy in Education and a Master of Arts in Education from the University of Ottawa. She also has a Bachelor of Education from Dalhousie University in Halifax, N.S. and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ont.

The National Aboriginal Health Organization is an Aboriginal-designed and -controlled body that works to influence and advance the health and well-being of Aboriginal Peoples through knowledge-based strategies.
