Military Medicine, Fall 2004

RDML Michael S. Baker, MC, USNR, has been awarded the Uniformed Services University Surgical Associates' 2004 Barry Goldwater Service Award. The USU Surgical Associates supports the Norman N. Rich Department of Surgery, F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. Baker is an AMSUS Life Member and a member of the Editorial Board of Military Medicine.

RDML (sel) Thomas R. Cullison, MC, USN, has been reassigned as Medical Officer to the Marine Corps, Washington, DC.

RADM John C. Duffy, USPHS (Ret), is now a consultant/surveyor with Joint Commission International (JCI). A separate company from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, JCI extends the Joint Commission's mission worldwide. Through both international consultation and accreditation, Joint Commission International helps to improve the quality of patient care in many nations. Joint Commission International has extensive international experience working with public and private health care organizations and local governments in more than 40 countries. RADM Duffy is the Editor of Military Medicine, International Journal of AMSUS.

RDML Robert D. Hufstader, Jr., MC, USN has been reassigned as Command Surgeon, U. S. Pacific Command, Pearl Harbor, HI.

RDML Lewis S. Libby, III, DC, USNR, has been nominated for promotion to Rear Admiral while serving as Fleet Dental Officer, Commander, U. S. Pacific Fleet, Pearl Harbor, HI.

RDML Elizabeth M. Morris, NC, USIMR, has been nominated for promotion to Rear Admiral while serving as assistant deputy, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, Washington, DC. She is a member of the AMSUS Board of Managers.

RDML Adam M. Robinson, Jr., MC, USN, assumed command of the National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, MD, in a ceremony held on 15 July 2004.

Air Force Surgeon General, Lt Gen George Peach Taylor, Jr, USAF, MC, was presented the Gold Cross of Honor of the Bundeswehr for his contributions to the German aviation medicine community. Brig Gen Erich Roedig, the German Surgeon General, presented the award in a Pentagon ceremony held on August 13.

RADM (sel) Dennis J. Woofter, DC, USN, is being reassigned as Deputy Director for Naval Medicine (N093B), Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Arlington, VA.

Col Harry F. Laws, USAF, MC (Ret), has accepted a position as Chief, General Pediatrics Division, Buffalo Children's Hospital in Buffalo, NY. Dr. Laws started 1 September as clinical assistant professor at the State University of the New York School of Medicine, Buffalo. After retiring from the Air Force in 1994, Dr. Laws spent 8 years with Eli Lilly and Co and recently was the administrator of St Vincent Children's Hospital in Indianapolis prior to accepting this teaching, administrative and research role.
