Military Medicine, Winter 2005

RDML Brian G. Brannman, MSC, USN, has been selected for reassignment as Commander, Naval Medical Center, San Diego, CA. He is currently assigned as Director of the Medical Service Corps/Deputy Chier, Fleet Operations Support, M3F, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, Washington, DC.

Col Robert L. Chu, USAFR, MC, has been nominated for promotion to Brigadier General. He is currently serving as Mobilization Assistant to the Assistant Surgeon General for Health Care Operations, Office of the Surgeon General, HQ USAF, Boiling AFB, DC. He is a Life Member of AMSUS.

Lt Col Clifton O. Dummett, USAFR, DC (Ret), received an honorary Doctor of Science degree during Convocation 2004 at Meharry Medical College, Nashville, TN. One of the leading pioneers in periodontics, Dr. Dummett became the Meharry's youngest dean of the School of Dentistry and subsequently broke the color barrier among faculty at the University of Alabama. He is distinguished emeritus professor of dentistry at the University of Southern California.

COL Craig H. Llewellyn, MC, USA (Ret), was honored by the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) in a retirement ceremony on October 6, 2004. COL Llewellyn was the first full time Commandant of Students at USUHS, serving in that position from 1982 until his retirement from active duty in 1987. Following his Army retirement, served as Professor and Chair of the Department of Military and Emergency Medicine from 1987 to 2001. In 2001 he took over as the Director of the Center for Disaster and Humanitarian Assistance Medicine as served full time until his year. COL Llewellyn is a Life Member of AMSUS and recently stepped down from being a long time member of the Editorial Board of Military Medicine.

RADM (Sel) John M. Mateczun, MC, USN, has been selected for reassignment reassigned as Deputy Chief, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, Washington, DC. He is currently serving as Commander Naval Medical Center, San Diego, CA.

Col Mary M. Martin, USAFR, NC, retired in a ceremony held in the Pentagon on 4 December 2004. Lt Gen John A. Bradley, Chief of Air Force Reserve, was the presiding Office. Col Martin's last assignment was Director, Medical Directorate, HQ Office of Air Force Reserve, Washington DC. She has relocated to Folly Beach, SC. She is a Life Member of AMSUS.

Brig Gen Howard A. McMahan, USAFR, MC, has been nominated for promotion to Major General. He is currently serving as Mobilization Assistant to the Surgeon General, HQ USAF, Washington, DC. He is a Life Member of AMSUS.

Col Joseph F. Molinari, USAFR, BSC, was recently honored by The New England College of Optometry and The Alumni Association as Alumnus of the Year, 2004. Col Molinari was singled out and recognized from the many alumni of the 108 year old institution for his clinical, teaching, research and education philanthropic accomplishments in vision care. The President of the Alumni Association, Dr. Marsha Green, presented Dr. Molinari with the coveted award at a special reception aboard the luxury yacht, Odyssey, while cruising in Boston harbor. He is a member of the Military Medicine Editorial Board and a Life Member of AMSUS.

VADM Richard Nelson, MC, USN (Ret), former Navy Surgeon General, was honored as one of the recipients of the 2004 Distinguished Alumni Award from the Oklahoma State University Alumni Association. A native of Perkins, Oklahoma, Nelson graduated with a degree in Arts and Sciences and Pre-Medical Science. He retired from the Navy in 2001. He is a Life Member of AMSUS

BG Ronald D. Silverman, DC, USAR, has been nominated for promotion to the rank of Major General. He is currently serving as Commander, 3rd Medical Command, Decatur, GA.
