Continence Clarification

Nursing BC, Oct 2004 by Carr, Marcia

I would like to clarify a statement at the end of my article Continence Promotion and Management (Nursing BC, April 2004) that stated, "Continence nursing is now recognized as a nursing specialty by the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA)." In consultation with Dr. Jennifer Skelly, Director of the Nurse Continence Advisor Program at McMaster University, I would like to assure that it is understood that the Canadian Nurse Continence Advisors Association is an associate group of CNA, but has not yet been designated by CNA as a specific specialty group with CNA certification designation.

The Canadian Nurse Continence Advisors Association was formed in 2002 in an effort to ensure that the levels of education and practice required to be a nurse continence advisor are consistent and meet standards that are articulated in the literature.
