The RNABC 2005 Nominations Committee is seeking nominations for practicing registered nurses to serve on the RNABC Board of Directors. Elections will take place between May and June 2005. The two-year terms of office commence September 1, 2005.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF RNABC BOARD MEMBERS

The Board of Directors is RNABC's policy-making and governing body. It receives its authority from the Nurses (Registered) Act.* All members of the Board of Directors participate in: developing, revising and monitoring implementation of Board policy; advocating the mission of RNABC; developing RNABC's strategic priorities; and accounting to the registrants regarding the activities of RNABC.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE VIOE-PRESIDENT

(Elected by all RNABC registrants in good standing)

As an officer of the Board, the vice-president is a member of the RNABC Executive Committee, is a signing officer of RNABC and is chair of the Board of Directors of the RNABC Captive Insurance Corporation. The vice-president assumes the duties and responsibilities of the president in the absence or inability of the president to act. The vice-president also assumes the office of the president should that office become vacant between elections. The vice-president assists the president at board and annual meetings, and is customarily a member of the Annual Meeting Program Committee.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE DIRECTORS-AT-LARGE

(One to be elected by all RNABC registrants in good standing)

As officers of the Board, directors-at-large are members of the Executive Committee and the RNABC Captive Insurance Corporation Board of Directors. Directors-at-large may carry additional committee or liaison responsibilities. They also serve as a communication link between registrants and the Board of Directors, communicating Board policies and decisions to registrants as well as directing registrants' concerns to the Board or to the Executive Director.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ELECTORAL DISTRICT DIEECTORS

(Five to be elected by RNABC registrants in good standing assigned to the electoral district)

Electoral district directors serve as a communication link between the Board and district chapters and registrants. They may help with RNABC communications activities within their districts and assist registrants in presenting their concerns to the Board of Directors. In addition to serving on the Board of Directors, electoral district directors may sit on other RNABC committees.

ELIGIBILITY TO HOLD RNABC BOARO OF DIRECTORS ELECTIVE OFFICE

1. Registered nurse registrants in good standing in RNABC and eligible to hold practicing registration at the time of nomination shall be eligible for election, except as precluded in Articles 4.2.2 to 4.2.7, and 7.1.3.1 to 7.1.3.2 of the RNABC Constitution and Bylaws.

2. Electoral District Directors must reside within the districts they represent or be a member of a chapter within that district (Article 7.1.3.1.1 of the RNABC Constitution and Bylaws).

3. An elected member of the Board of Directors is required to resign her or his position on the Board of Directors at the time the individual submits her or his nomination for another elected position on the Board of Directors when there is an overlap in the terms of office of the two positions (Articles 4.2.4.1 and 7.1.3.1.1.1 of the RNABC Constitution and Bylaws).

HOW TO NOMINATE A CANDIDATE FOR RNABC BOARD OF DIRECTORS' ELECTIVE OFFICE

Nominations for RNABC Board of Directors' elective office can be made by two members of a chapter executive who are RNABC registrants in good standing, or any five RNABC registrants in good standing.

An RNABC registrant may nominate more than one candidate in each RNABC Board of Directors' election, but may not nominate more than one candidate for each elective office.

Mail a 3'' × 4'' or 5'' × 7'' print photograph or electronic photograph (JPEG, TIFF or EPS) on compact disc to the Registrant Relations Advisor, or e-mail a JPEG, TIFF or EPS (300 dpi) image to millan@rnabc.bc.ca

3. Code of Conduct for Candidates Campaigning for RNABC Board of Directors Elective Office

Due: 1600 hours, five business days after the candidate has been informed that her or his name has been approved for inclusion on the RNABC Ticket of Nominations. The signed Code of Conduct may be mailed or faxed to the RNABC Nominations Committee c/o the Registrant Relations Advisor.
