Dr. Hyman R. Kamens remembered

* Hyman R. Kamens, O.D., died on March 2 at the age of 77. He was Professor Emeritus at the New England College of Optometry (NEWENCO) in Boston, Mass.

Dr. Kamens had been employed at NEWENCO since 1948. Over the course of his lengthy career, he held a variety of positions: Clinical Supervisor, Director of Clinic, Dean of the College, Dean of Administration, Dean and Vice President of Student Affairs and Admissions, and Dean of Alumni and Development.

In 1975, Dr. Kamens was awarded an honorary Doctor of Ocular Science degree by the institution. He was also voted Alumnus of the Year by the Alumni Association in 1977 and 1988. He was a longtime member of the American Optometric Association, American Public Health Association, Massachusetts Society of Optometrists, New England Council of Optometrists and a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.
