Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia to come clean

Optometric Management, Sep 2000

* In a ground-breaking decision, a Georgia appeals panel decided that Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia must disclose its reimbursement rates and the methodology for calculating them to contracted doctors.

A trial court will decide how to carry out the appeals court decision and will also determine exactly what information Blue Cross must disclose and how they should make it available.

Though the decision might still be appealed, some experts think that it will add "persuasive authority" in other courts regarding more honesty about reimbursement rates.
