Note from Chief Optometric Editor

Optometric Management, Jul 2006 by West, Walter D

Dear colleague, I am constantly amazed at the number and scope of new equipment and technological developments being offered in our industry. These enhancements from manufacturers offer opportunities for you and me to enhance our practices in three specific ways.

First, most of the equipment and technology being developed is brand new. This provides us with an opportunity to provide a level of care to our patients that was never before possible. second, these new developments always seem to offer increased efficiency in gathering data, which also can lead to greater levels of care.

Third, newer computer-driven technologies allow us to more efficiently and effectively train our staff to use this new equipment with more confidence in a shorter period of time. Proper utilization of userfriendly technology allows us to delegate more clinical data-gathering to assistants, increasing the number of patients we can see in a clinic day.

Along with the advantages of providing new services, improved efficiency, reduced training time and a greater ability to delegate clinical data gathering comes greater practice profitability and increased practice value. There has never been a better time to invest in you patients, your practice and yourself!

Kindest regards,

Walter D. West, O.D., F.A.A.O.
