New transport science text

Road & Transport Research, Dec 1999

1999 marked the 40th anniversary of the inception of the ISTIT symposia, over which time the ISTTT triennial symposia have remained the premier series of conferences in transportation science.

The proceedings of the 14th International Symposium on Transportation and Traffic Theory, held in Jerusalem, Israel, in July 1999, have been published under the title "Transportation and Traffic Theory". More than 30 refereed papers are contained in this volume, exploring innovative solutions to the analysis of traffic and transportation problems embracing safety, mobility, efficiency, productivity, planning and the environment.

The book is divided into ten sections: Traffic Flow Models, Traffic Flow Behaviour, Road Safety and Pedestrians, Flow Evaluation on Road Networks, Traffic Assignment, Traffic Demand, Forecasting and Decision Tools, Traffic Simulation, Traffic Information and Control, Road Tolling and Parking Balance, Traveller Survey and Transit Planning.

The publishers claim that, with contributions from many of the most important researchers in the field, this is a book which will "help define the state-of-the-art in transportation science and point towards future intelligent developments in the new millennium". It is hoped that a review of the book will be published in a later issue of "Road and Transport Research"
